SPAM SPAM SPAM

Spam as we all know now is the expression we use for the sending of UCE, (Unsolicited commercial e-mail). But SPAM, the cold meat variety has been around since 1937, when it first entered the English language as a derivative of Spiced Ham. This cost effective cold meat has been with us throughout the decades. During World War Two allied troops used to eat it in between battles for the freedom of Europe and in his memoirs Nikita Khrushchev mentioned it as one of the Russian troop's favourites.

Prime Minster Margaret Thatcher even went as far as calling it a 'delicacy' which was probably true for blitzed staved Londoner's and the like and made a great change from powdered egg and dripping. Spam continued its rise in popularity selling its one billionth tin in 1959.

But it wasn't until 1970 when the BBC comedy team Monty Python produced a sketch that took Spam into a new genre and unbeknown to them created the SPAM phenomenon of the internet. SPAM made its television debut at the Green Midget Café where it served eggs and SPAM, eggs, bacon and SPAM, eggs bacon, sausage and SPAM...to a group of Vikings…. Who sang a chorus of "spam, spam, spam . . . louder and louder in an increasing volume drowning out other conversation? Thus the analogy applied to the internet as UCE was made as it seen is as drowning out normal communication on the Internet. You get the idea!

Today internet SPAM is the bane of our lives: there are probably more adverts for increasing the size of your various body appendments or reducing them than any other media. There are also many relatives that you have newly discovered living in Nigeria who want to share their Gold mines with you for a small percentage. All SPAM related.

Online gaming too suffers from SPAMMING, genuine sites protect themselves with the latest Anti-spam equipment and software, but these spammers are becoming more and more sophisticated, attacking sites and getting players to play at fraudulent sites in an attempt to take their money or clone their cards.

To ensure that the site is genuine visit only sites with secure reputations and established track records such as well established sites such as www.play65.com the world's largest online backgammon room. This is highly recommended because Spammers are becoming more and more innovative in their attempts to SPAM you, even using Hebrew text as in the following example.

It was already as he tried it again still nothing happened! שש בש שש בש hit George in the chest שש-בש שש-בש welded on there! ששבש ששבש relief and continued to walk down the street After a minute he משחקי שש-בש משחקי שש-בש I am serious If we could get you the time machine and the power.

The translation reads: שש בש - Backgammon
משחקי שש-בש - Games of Backgammon
Clicking onto any of these links can lead to a fraudulent site that will suck you in and blow you out faster than you can say SPAM eggs and Spam. If one of these messages arrives in your inbox delete it. Backgammon cannot afford to be given a bad name online by the use of these techniques; it has grown out of al proportions from the traditional board game to a multi million player enterprise. It would be only too easy to SPAM players with the lure of big cash prizes and big money tournaments.

Whilst backgammon continues its ascent, SPAM maintains its position as the house wives cold meat alternative, as for Monty Python they too are enjoying something of a revival with their Broadway and West End Production that reprises their earlier success of the Tales of King Arthur and his search for the Holy Grail, in wait for it SPAMALOT, in theatres now.

All together now Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM
