Mirror Mirror on the Wall….
Well we all know the next line about who is the fairest in the land etc, etc,
And we are all familiar with the mirror stance just before we go out to trip the light fantastic, but what is the reason for standing in front of the mirror to pose? It's to see how good we are and how good we look?
Unfortunately on a backgammon board we don't have a mirror to posture too, all we have is the talent that has been bestowed upon us either through natural ability or through our process of learning the game.
If we really want to know how good we are at backgammon then we need to set certain standards of achievement ; most of which can be condensed down into a set number of games against the opposition where we have to win a larger amount than the opponent to evaluate our ability.
Setting a pre-determined number of 1-point games to a fixed number of 100 games, will give you a good idea of the sort of player you are and your present range. It will also provide you with the information that you will need to progress as a player.
In winning a certain number of games this method provides a target for you to aim at and offers a means to improve on that score.
Playing against an opponent of equal measure will give you a percentage of 2.5% of winning say 60 games out of 100.
Sixty out of 100 makes you a better player than the opposition.
So you'll have no problem in knowing who is the better player; with or without the mirror.
